Brochet RCMP needed to call backup this past Sunday when they encountered an armed and barricaded person holding hostages while investigating an assault.
Brochet RCMP called in the D division critical incident and emergency response team who arrived around 11 P-M from Winnipeg.
The male suspect inside was armed with a rifle. An adult managed to flee the residence and was taken to safety by police. There was no telephone service available at the residence so negotiators communicated with the suspect via facebook from the command centre in Winnipeg.
At about 9:30 AM the suspect surrendered without incident, the rifle was later located inside the residence. A 37 year old Brochet man is now in custody facing four charges.
